With the construction of the Whitehorse Dam, Schwatka Lake was created in the 1950s. Schwatka Lake is very marvelous site as thousands of enthusiast come here to enjoy its beauty and activities.
Apart from it Schwatka Lake is spot of birds as it is a popular resting area for migrating birds and other animals including coyotes and mule deer. On the eastern shore and the Yukon River Loop there is found a day use area.
