Kensington Market, Toronto

Found just west of the downtown core, Kensington Market is a haven of fresh produce, exotic foods, eclectic shops, and tiny-yet-amazing restaurants. The 245 local, and mostly independent, businesses include vintage clothing stores, butcher shops, specialty cheese stores, bakers, Latin American grocers, and restaurants ranging from Thai food to empanadas and pupusas to some of the best Mexican in the city.

During the summer months, Kensington hosts Pedestrian Sundays, an all-day event held every Sunday from 12-6 pm, where the streets are closed to cars. Pedestrian Sunday Festivals are held the last Sunday of every month in the summer, where there are performances by artists, musicians, and some of the store owners, as well as many more street vendors and tasty sidewalk fare.
